A spectacle, a trip, a celestial passage – plunging back to the roots of nature. Rainforest Fringe Festival presents the preview of Sarawak: An Indigenous Journey.
Making its debut at RFF 2018 is a homegrown production featuring Sarawak’s indigenous groups. The state’s rich tapestry will come alive through spectacular dance, songs, sounds, and chants.
We are delighted to welcome on stage Sarawak-born, New York-based dancer and choreographer Raziman Sarbini, and Kuching-born celebrated soprano Dewi Liana Seriestha, the first Malaysian to win the Miss World Talent title in 2014. The show will also feature a performance choreographed by Malaysian dancer Liu Yong Sean, Malaysia Traditional Dance Competition Gold winner.
Opening the whole showcase are special guests SeaHorse from Taiwan, adding an international element to the evening. SeaHorse presents The Spirit of the Mountain and the Ocean, a story depicting the worship of the sky, earth, nature, and life itself. By using Khoomei, the horse head fiddle and Taiwan’s elegant traditional Chinese musical instruments - the Chinese Big Drum, the Didgeridoo, the Jew’s Harp and the Erhu, SeaHorse hopes to break the boundaries of the ocean and the grasslands.
Joining the performance with SeaHorse will be Hao-Hsiang Hsu, internationally famous actor (Life of Pi) and theatre director, and composer Lin-Jhong Han. Also performing is Paiwan ancient singer Seredau Tariyaljan, who performed at the Pre-Grammy Party at the 55th Grammy Awards.
Created with support from Siti Shahida, Mohamad Faizuan bin Mat and Endang Lestari from the Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts, UNIMAS for visual creation, and consultation from Dr. Monica Janowski, author of Tuked Rini, Cosmic Traveller.
Get ready for an otherworldly energy and the journey that may be … beyond physical.
